As part of Aston Martin’s centenary celebrations, on 17 January, a Vanquish was spectacularly lifted on to the helipad of one of the world’s most recognisable luxury destinations, the Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai, in front of some of the region’s most important dignitaries. The audacious event, featuring the airlift of Aston Martin’s ultimate GT, was the first time that a car has been placed on to the helipad, which sits 1,000ft above the ground at the top of the iconic sail-shaped building.

Speaking from the helipad, Aston Martin CEO Dr Ulrich Bez said: “It is with great pride that we continue our centenary celebrations in such a unique manner in the city of Dubai. Today we are achieving another world first—one of many for Aston Martin over the years. This is a true feat for Aston Martin and a fantastic way to begin a new century of global success for our iconic brand.”

He added: “Aston Martin remains one of the most exclusive and sought-after brands in the world, so it is only right that a key element of our year-long centenary celebrations takes place in a similarly high profile destination.”

Witnessing the remarkable event, Dominic Jermey, British Ambassador to the UAE, said: “Aston Martin is one of the world’s most iconic automotive brands. I cannot think of a more spectacular or fitting way for this great British tradition to mark its 100th anniversary, particularly in this city that is so passionate for luxury and bespoke brands.”

Red-carpet gala with Bond girl Naomie Harris and producer Michael G. Wilson

Istanbul’s famous shopping mall, Kanyon, hosted a red-carpet gala on 30 October with Bond girl Naomie Harris and producer Michael G. Wilson. The VIP screening of Skyfall drew celebrities and press as well as exclusive guests of Aston Martin Istanbul, Omega, Heineken, Swarovski and Sony Electronics. The film is of special interest to Turkish audiences as some parts of Skyfall were filmed in the cities of Istanbul, Fethiye and Adana. The theme continued with a Bond night at the British Consulate-General in Istanbul on 2 November, with senior British and Turkish diplomats in attendance.

Anniversary celebrated in vintage style

To celebrate 100 years of Aston Martin and the 50th Anniversary of the first Bond film, Premiere International Group, the Aston Martin agent in Kuwait, held a commemorative event including four original Bond cars: the DBS (Quantum of Solace), Vanquish (Die Another Day), demolished DBS (Casino Royale) and Sean Connery’s classic DB5 (Goldfinger), which reappeared in Skyfall. The event created a big buzz in Kuwaiti society, drawing VIP visits from the royal family and attracting huge interest on social media and crowds of up to 15,000, who took photos of the cars and holograms of the Bond characters.

Turkish Delight

Aston Martin’s strong heritage, unique culture, traditional craftsmanship and cutting-edge technology welcomed automobile enthusiasts attending the 14th International Istanbul Auto Show in November.

With two new models, Aston Martin was the centre of attention, displaying the Vanquish, bearing the iconic name and inheriting the beautiful design and advanced technology of the supercar One-77. Also on show was the new DB9, which is available in Coupé or Volante body styles. The new Vanquish was launched with a short presentation by Neil Slade, Aston Martin Lagonda Middle East and North Africa General Manager.

The Vanquish was also the star of the show in December at the Saudi International Motor Show in Jeddah, where it was unveiled by the Minister of Transport and Aston Martin’s local partner, Sheikh Ali Alireza. The Aston Martin stand was well visited by both VIPs and royalty alike.
