Centre stage IN CALIFORNIA

As Aston Martin continues its centennial celebrations around the world, the new Vanquish Volante made its global debut during the Pebble Beach Automotive Week in California, from 14-18 August. It was unveiled alongside the 2015 V12 Vantage S, making its first appearance in the United States. The CC100 Speedster Concept also made its debut on North American soil at the climax of the week’s festivities on 18 August, capping the brand’s presence at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, where Aston Martin was a featured marque for the event. Aston Martin’s Regional Director for The Americas, Julian Jenkins, said: “The Pebble Beach week is now well-established as a global celebration of the automobile and we were delighted to be a featured marque for 2013, celebrating our first 100 years, while also looking forward to the future.” Aston Martin commenced the festivities with an exclusive media preview at Pebble Beach on the morning of Wednesday 14 August. Later, at the McCall Motorworks Revival, the Vanquish Volante and V12 Vantage S were shown for the first time.

The Quail: A Motorsports Gathering, an event to celebrate 100 years of Aston Martin with a special collection of cars, was held on 16 August, with the company hosting guests at The Aston Martin Estate during the course of the weekend. This exquisite private venue, situated high above Carmel, with panoramic views across Monterey Bay, offered the perfect backdrop for showcasing Aston Martin’s latest sports cars to customers and friends of the brand for the first time.

news in brief

The 36th annual Ault Park Concours d’Elegance, on 9 June, had a special guest this year in the form of the DB5. Creating much excitement, a ride in James Bond’s iconic drive of choice, to take place after the classic car show, was auctioned off to raise funds for the Cruisin’ for a Cure cancer charity.

The Collection, Aston Martin dealer in Miami, Florida, held a summer test drive event for 40 guests on 26-27 July with participants able to get behind the wheel of both the Vanquish and the Rapide S.

The grand opening of Aston Martin Cleveland was held on 26 July. Around 60 guests enjoyed the hospitality provided by event sponsors Jaeger-LeCoultre, John Lobb, Louis Roederer Champagne and Cleveland Whiskey.

Ride & Drive Round-up

The Rapide S, V8 Vantage Coupe, the DB9 Volante and two demo cars, with the Rapide S cut-away on display, were featured at the Tampa Bay Ride and Drive in Sarasota, Florida, in June. A similar event took place in Chicago organised by Worth magazine at the Wrigley Mansion near Lincoln Park, supported by Chicago dealers, Lake Forest Sports Cars and Napleton’s Aston Martin of Chicago with over 50 drivers taking part. Finally, a Ride and Drive was held by Aston Martin New England at The Tower at Carnegie Abbey Country Club, Rhode Island, on 20-21 July (pictured below).

Hall of Fame

Aston Martin’s founders Robert Bamford and Lionel Martin were inducted to the Automotive Hall of Fame in Michigan on 25 July, along with David E Cole, Robert Lutz and Sir Jackie Stewart OBE. Brook A Bacon, East Operations Manager for Aston Martin The Americas, accepted the award on behalf of Bamford and Martin. A 1954 DB2 Supersonic was displayed on stage (above), with 80 auction cars parked outside.

AMOC East’s largest event, the Lime Rock Gathering, Connecticut took place in June (pictured below). There were 41 Aston Martins on display, including the DB2. Guests were given the opportunity to drive the Rapide S, Vantage S Roadster and Vanquish, courtesy of the Designed to Be Driven Rapide S tour. The tour also visited Long Island in July, where Aston Martin Long Island, thanks to MarineMax, toasted the marque’s centenary aboard the new Sea Ray 540 Sundancer. Drives were held at the Prime steakhouse in Huntington NY.
