High-class action at the Dubai Julius Baer Beach Polo Cup
Lionel Richie, the chart-topping American singer-songwriter, musician, record producer and actor, was a guest of Aston Martin during the Julius Baer Beach Polo Cup in Dubai. Richie was also welcomed at Aston Martin’s Dubai showroom and expressed his admiration for the brand and its range of exclusive and iconic sports cars. “Welcoming a celebrity such as Lionel Richie to Dubai as a special VIP guest, both at the event and at the showroom, as well as sponsoring the third-placed winning team at the Julius Baer Beach Polo Cup, is a clear indicator of Aston Martin’s continuous patronage of excellence and luxury,” said Tim Trenker, General Manager of Aston Martin Dubai. “Aston Martin’s quintessentially British luxury sports car experience delivers thrills and adrenaline as well as proof of skill, and excellence of the highest calibre. We were delighted to be associated as team sponsor with a tournament that offers similar attributes in abundance.”
The spectacular polo tournament, held at the Mina A’Salam Hotel on 19 and 20 April, saw an elite selection of professional polo players from around the world battle it out on the sand at one of the city’s best-known beach destinations. Two breathtaking days of polo were followed by an invitation-only players’ night.
During the event, Aston Martin showcased the same Vanquish car that had been audaciously airlifted onto the seven-star Burj Al Arab’s helipad as an exhibition of precision and luxury during its centenary celebrations earlier in the year. “Aston Martin is known for presenting the very pinnacle of sporting excellence mated to uncompromising luxury,” said Trenker. “At the Julius Baer Cup, we gave audiences, who may have missed the spectacle at the Burj Al Arab the first time, a chance to explore and appreciate the same car.”
Aston Martin and the Saudi Investment Bank offered a unique driving opportunity in Jeddah in March. Guests were able to stretch the race-bred talent of the marque to the full along a high-speed test route. While the 2013 Vanquish, launched recently in the Kingdom at the Jeddah Luxury Motor Show, was the day’s undoubted star, drivers had the chance to test the full range of Aston Martin’s current models.

Aston Martin was the exclusive sponsor of an event in April at the British Embassy in Dubai to celebrate the birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Guests, including the Foreign Secretary, William Hague, were entertained by the Band of HM Royal Marines and enjoyed traditional British food and drink. Several Aston Martin cars were also displayed on the Embassy lawns. Neil Slade, General Manager of Aston Martin Middle East and North Africa, said: “As a brand that reflects the quintessential British values of excellence, quality and luxury, Aston Martin is delighted to be taking the lead in appreciating the Queen on her 87th birthday.”
